Ethiopia is one of the oldest known cradles of civilization known to man. Christianity was brought to the Kingdom of Axum around the 4th century AD and later in the 7th century Islam was introduced. Foreign missionaries were introduced to the region around the 1630's. Because of these unwelcomed guest Ethiopia did not welcome foreign Christians and Europeans into their lands. Its isolationism may have saved the country from 19th century colonialism. In 1936 Italian facists entered the region and forced its emperor into isolation but was later returned when the British and the French defeated the Italians. Civil unrest would lead to the demise of the aging emperor and in 1974 a socialist sort of government was named. The country went through a period of red terror that was funded by the Soviets and Cuba. This lead to the implementation of a communist government being installed in the late 1970's, early 1980's. In 1989 the country went through a period of famine that also lead to a change in governments. Finally, in 1994 the country would declare its independence and later hold free elections.
I am originally from Staten Island, NY but now live in Dallas, Georgia.I teach at a local middle school and absolutely love it. I graduated in 2004 from Kennesaw State University. I have a masters degree from Grand Canyon University. I met my awesome husband on March 9, 2002 and we were engaged six months later. We got married on August 2, 2003, that was a quick romance. Keith is awesome, the complete opposite of me which I guess is why we balance each other out. We just adopted a baby girl from Vietnam. Our daughter (Lennah Abaigail)was born on December 1,2006. We adopted our second daugher Delylah Aviella from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia born on January 20, 2008. In June of 2011 we also took the placement of 3 children Heather, Logan, and Zach from here in the US. Now for our most current journey we are about to embark on an adoption from China. We have four pets an australian sheperd named Jesse, 2 mini american eskimo dogs named Nicky and Daisy, and a calico cat named frankie. Since I am a social studies teacher I take strong pride in my country and try to teach my students to love America and to be proud to be an american.
